A pivotal case is now heading to the U.S. Supreme Court. One that carries consequences far beyond Minnesota’s borders. The Minnesota Deer Farmers have taken legal action against Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) because it has become unmistakably clear that their policies are aimed at stripping away not only Minnesota deer farmers rights to farm deer, but the fundamental right of all Americans farm and ranch.
Governor Walz has openly claimed that meat producers contribute to global warming, and it will be through legislative efforts that he intends to curtail its producers. This mindset is not only dangerous, it is unconstitutional. If a governor or regulatory agency can declare an entire agricultural sector illegitimate, then every farmer, every rancher, and every food-producing business in the United States is at risk.
This is precisely why the Minnesota Deer Farmers have taken their case to the highest court in the nation. They are seeking recognition that farming and ranching are fundamental rights. Rights that are inherent to all Americans, not privileges to be granted or revoked by government officials based on ideology or political agenda. These rights stretch back to the very beginning of our nation and its founding principles. The ability to raise animals, grow food, and steward private land formed the backbone of America’s earliest settlements, sustained our growth into a world power, built our rural economies, and remains essential to our national security today. Without the freedom to farm and ranch, the promise of liberty enshrined in the U.S. Constitution becomes hollow, and the security of our food supply becomes dangerously vulnerable.
The Cavalry Group has formally submitted an Amicus Brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the Minnesota Deer Farmers because this case is not simply about deer farming. It concerns the future of farming and ranching in every corner of America.
The stakes could not be higher. The Supreme Court’s ruling will determine whether Americans may continue to engage in farming, ranching, animal husbandry, and private land stewardship free from activist-driven government interference. It will determine whether regulators can wield environmental rhetoric as a weapon to suppress lawful agricultural industries. And it will determine whether future generations will inherit the same freedoms that built this nation, or whether those freedoms will be replaced by government permission slips.
This is why every American—farmer, rancher, landowner, or simply someone who eats—must understand the magnitude of what is unfolding. Minnesota Deer Farmer, Steve Porter, has released an important video explaining the urgency of this case, the risks facing America’s agricultural future, and the critical need for agriculture groups across the country to stand together and support this case heading to the U.S. Supreme Court by signing onto their Amicus Brief. His message lays out the truth plainly and emotionally: if government officials can eliminate food-producing industries at will, then our rights, our livelihoods, and our nation’s food security are in jeopardy.
Steve Porter’s video is essential viewing for anyone who cares about freedom, farming, and the future of America’s food supply.
