Declawing cats as a state legislative item is silly

I would think New York State has many more important things to review and pass legislation on, than the declawing of cats!

The fact that the veterinary association, which in fact should be the primary source regarding animal welfare, disagrees with the new law, should be a major factor. I have always had cats, and they have been declawed and kept indoors where they have lived long regal feline lives.

Yes, there are scratching posts, scratching pads and plastic covers but cats can’t really tell the difference between them, the furniture or your leg.

Spaying, neutering and removing claws have long been advocated as positive points for finding homes for many cats.

I hate to think how many cats will never find “good” homes because potential cat families don’t want the destruction that could be “scratched” into place.
