After three alligators were found around Pittsburgh in the past month, there are calls for better regulation of exotic animals.
It’s legal to own an alligator in Pittsburgh, and in Pennsylvania.
City Councilwoman Darlene Harris, long an animal lover, is reportedly considering city legislation to control exotic animals.
Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto has been told Harris’ legislation is not necessarily a ban.
“We also have ordinances which limit farm animals and what type of farm animals you can have in this city,” said Peduto
Humane Animal Rescue has called for better laws statewide with the popularity of reptile shows.
As for Pittsburgh, “People, if you have alligators, don’t bring them into the city,” said Peduto. ”I can understand the occasional alligator once every decade.”
