PLC to Weigh In as Congress Considers Changes to Endangered Species Act

Congress is looking at possible changes to the Endangered Species Act. The Western Governors Association has some recommendations to streamline those rules and make them work more effectively. Public Lands Council Executive Director Ethan Lane says his group backs those recommendations and will work with Congress to get them implemented.

He says the Endangered Species Act hasn’t been updated for many years and needs reform.

Lane says the Western Governor’s group also wants more state involvement in determining endangered species and handling them. He says that makes sense.

Lane says by putting the states in charge of the ESA recovery process it speeds up the delisting of those species.
